Aqualia nominated as Desalination Company of the Year by GWI
Aqualia has been shortlisted for the awards of Desalination Company of the Year and Desalination Plant of the Year by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), “the world’s leading publisher for the global water market.” The 2019 award will be handed out on 9 April at the Global Water Summit in London.
Aqualia’s participation in the MIDES project was mentioned by GWI in the nomination, “…the company is making waves in the cutting-edge new technologies aiming to redefine desal performance. As the leader of the EU-backed MIDES project examining the use of microbial desalination cells as a pretreatment for RO, Aqualia is at the forefront of a technological revolution that could eventually see the extraction of salt from seawater using less than 0.5 kWh/m3 of external energy.”
For the Plant of the Year nomination, GWI cited Aqualia’s new desalination facility in Djerba, Tunisia. The facility, completed in June 2016, aims to provide 50,000 m3 of drinking water per day and contribute to the island’s economic, social and environmental development in a sustainable way. Aqualia’s desalination plant in Denia, Spain, will be the site of the first full-scale MIDES demonstration beginning in May of this year.
