Roundtable on Climate and Security features MIDES
Fifteen countries and eight organisations were represented as the MIDES project was presented at the Hague Roundtable on Climate and Security on 25 October 2016 at the Embassy of Canada to the Netherlands. The Roundtable is an ongoing initiative that brings together stakeholders for sharing information and identifying opportunities for cooperation in addressing climate risks to peace and sustainable development.
The MIDES project has potential in climate adaptation by working towards increased access to fresh water in drought-affected areas. The project also supports climate mitigation efforts in that lower energy technology in desalination results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Water is certainly a key topic in climate change discussions. Innovative initiatives like MIDES are needed to carry forward sustainable development in changing global environmental conditions.
